Summary: Cannot connect to MSN/WLM - stays in "Connecting"
forever
Product: kopete
Version: unspecified
Platform: unspecified
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: general
AssignedTo: kopete-bugs at kde.org
ReportedBy: spectrumdt at gmail.com
Version: 0.70.0 (using 4.2.00 (KDE 4.2.0), 4.2.0-15.fc9 Fedora)
Compiler: gcc
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.27.15-78.2.23.fc9.i686
After upgrading to KDE 4.2, Kopete is having trouble connecting to MSN/WLM. It
gives no error messages (in GUI nor on the terminal), but it tends to display
"Connecting" as WLM status forever.
The severity of the problem varies from account to account. I have an old MSN
account (a Hotmail) and a new one (a GMail). Since my upgrade to KDE 4.2,
Kopete virtually never connects to the Hotmail account, but
usually manages to connect to the Gmail one. Note, however, that both
MSN accounts do work. I can log into both of them in aMSN without problems.
Apparently Kopete does have some connection to the network, though, even with
the account it hates. If I supply a wrong password, it promptly complains. But
with the correct password, it just hangs in "Connecting".
Kopete connects correctly to Jabber, AIM and ICQ.
I have tried going to Configure Kopete -> Accounts -> WLM account -> Modify
Account -> Connection and checking or unchecking "Override default server
information". This made no difference.
I have tried explicitly opening port 1863 in my firewall. This made no
difference.
Plugins I have active are: KopeteTeX, History, Text Effect.
See, for reference, a Fedora Forum thread where I try to troubleshoot the
problem:
