Although I still have the same version number 0.50.80 in "About Kopete" this seems to be solved for me in Version KDE 4.00.85 (KDE 4.0.85 (KDE 4.1 >= 20080703) "release 3.3", OpenSUSE 11.0 packages. It seems like Suse applied the right patch now :-)

The option Photo Source = "From contact" is not allowed, if there is no photo brought by the contact from server. Is it that what you wanted to implement?
