On my desktop machine (which is unavailable at the moment) with NVidia hardware I noticed some visual artifacts and poor performance with ARGB visuals enabled on a composited desktop.

Apparently there are some changes in the latest NVidia drivers (from their website) which fix problems in this area.  I haven't had a chance to test them, if you have suitable hardware then please do.
