I don't have a screen bit enough to fit that many columns and lines on at once.  230 columns x 75 lines is about the best I can do with a tiny font.

I wasn't able to reproduce the problem with a 230x75 display full of text and the MonoT bitmap font.  

Do you think you could try running Konsole with callgrind, switching between tabs a few times, then post the profile.
