            Bug ID: 473448
Summary: Information preview for Desktop Entry files (.desktop)
                    could be much better
    Classification: Applications
           Product: dolphin
           Version: 23.07.90
          Platform: Other
                OS: Linux
            Status: REPORTED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: panels: information
          Assignee: dolphin-bugs-null at kde.org
          Reporter: oded at geek.co.il
                CC: kfm-devel at kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

With the Information panel open, selecting a .desktop file (FreeDesktop.org
Desktop Entry), the information panel appears to try to extract some
information from the file itself - specifically, it shows the "Comment" field's
value as the "Type" field in the information panel, if the "Comment" field
exists - otherwise it just says "desktop entry".

Looking at some .desktop files in my ~/.local/share/applications, Steam games
are shown with "Type: Play this game on Steam" while the Firefox's snap desktop
entry says "Type: Browse the World Wide Web". This is less than useful...

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: KDE neon 5.27
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.7
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.109.0
Qt Version: 5.15.10
Kernel Version: 6.2.0-27-generic (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: offscreen
Processors: 20 × 12th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-12700H
Memory: 31.0 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: Mesa Intel® Graphics

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

I believe it is obvious that a better value for the information panel's "Type"
field would be the Desktop Entry "Type" field (if exists - otherwise the text
"desktop entry" is probably a good enough value), but it would also be super
useful to expose the "Name" field and possibly the "Comment" field in a way
that shows that its the comment.
