Oh, this is not the root problem I'm referring to here. If you comment out 
~line 3072 in khtmlview.cpp:

  // crashes on every click.
  //return false;

then selection works normally.

The problem is a crash Dirk is experiencing, which I cannot reproduce, neither 
with gcc 2.95 nor with gcc 3.4.0.

So the problem is basically this: For me, everything works. This is a 
thinkably bad prerequisite to fix a bug :-(
