Just to keep a bit track of my "wish":

I'd like to have a popup menu as with this patch, but for the already
existing editing navigation. So if I press the shortcut for back I get a
list of places I have been and only after selecting one the according
file is loaded.

Currently using back/forward is a bit like walking in the dark, as one
doesn't know after a few switches where he ends up being.

I know the toolbar buttons already provide the forward/backward list,
but for those I'd have to use the mouse which is a no-go ;)
