My experience with gcc 3.4.0 is not that _it_ is unstable, but that it's 
pedantic interpretation of the ISO/IEC 14882 causes a lot of problems with 
existing (non-conforming) code.  I was just trying to raise a flag about 
this, so people are aware there may be some issues.  I've seen, for example, 
the mere presence of an unused std::stringstream variable cause my program to 
seg fault.  That was due to running the KDE built with gcc < 3.4.0 and Qt 
built with gcc 3.4.0.
