Most file in this strange directory could be deleted though not all. No idea why, as I changed ownership on all of them and I was root. Being a Linux newbie, I find that hard to understand. KDE looks fine again, at least so far. I was already preparing myself mentally for the pain of doing a complete reinstall of my OS. That saved my day!!!</p>
