When I switched from one feed to another in Akregator, the program crashed, which sadly it has been doing ever more often in the last weeks. As I could not get it running again, i rebooted my computer.
From then on I am not able to start any component of the KDE-PIM suite (Kontact, Kmail, Kwallet, nor Krusader, Basket, Kalarm, Korganizer). They all crash instantaneously. Some KDE applications work though like Kgpg and Kate.

I searched the bug website if someone had the same problem (I get the error message: Ausführbare Datei: kmail PID: 3127 Signal: 7 (Bus error) other programs are similiar, all show 'Signal: 7'). But not with exactly this message or the more elaborate crash reports. Frankly I do not understand very much what is in them.
So I'm thinking about filing a bug report, but since so many programs are touched, and I guess there is a common cause, I'm not quite sure where to start, i.e. under which category to post them. Maybe I've overlooked the category KDE-PIM. Looking at the bug reports for KDE in general, this does not seem the appropiate section to me.

If someone knows of reports on the same of similiar problems I'd be glad to hear of them before filing a duplicate.

I can launch the programs in question from the command line if root, but not as a normal user. Then I receive this output:

pascal@pascal-debian:~$ kmail
KCrash: Application 'kmail' crashing...
<unknown program name>(32582)/: Communication problem with "kmail" , it probably crashed.
Error message was: "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown" : " "The name org.kde.kmail was not provided by any .service files" "

The only reason for this whole mess I can think of is a recent update of my Debian Testing 2.6.32-5 Kernel. I have KDE 4.4.1 (I just wanted to check using Kgpg and Kate, but they crashed when clicking on 'About KDE' in the menu, but the version should be correct)

This update did not include any changes to any KDE programs, I'm am quite sure of that, as I always check what apt-get wants to do to my computer (Things like removing the whole GNOME of KDE-desktop for dependency reasons are not so funny!)

The reason why I suspect the update to be the culprit, is that since that point of time, my root-directory is totally full. So no changes can be written in /, and I guess this is not optimal, but maybe I'm totally wrong with this. I set my root-directory up with 17G of space which should be more than enough, shouldn't it? I can still resize it as it is a logical volume in a LVM and just deleting some files that do not appear as especially important to me, is probably not the best way forward.

Thanks a lot for any hints and most of all for your patience of reading through this way too long mail,

Pascal

--
Pascal Bernhard
Schwalbacher Strasse 7
12161 Berlin
Germany,
