What makes the problem worse is that, on terminating and restarting the Kmail
process, both a main Kmail window and a composer window for the reply try to
open, resulting in Kmail hanging again.  This can happen again and again. 
Eventually, I will manage to restart Kmail properly, but I haven't managed to
identify what allows this to happen.
