AFAIK, an SSH session is also text only. Hence I expect them to behave the
same. But maybe I'm wrong.
It's understandable that you can't launch GUI stuff in text-only, but some
applications have CLI mode or dedicated CLI tools. I don't know if kmail does
or not, but somehow you are trying to launch it through SSH.

(I guess it's worth mentioning that I am not a kmail developer. Just trying to
narrow down the bug.)
