I think this is a duplicate, educate me differently if not, in the current
stable opensuse packages for 13.1 the function to show birthdays from events or
contacts is broken all along not showing any birthday coming up.  It appears
also "events" and anniversaries do not show up. 
So this is to some extend a "non feature" since that is broken also in 12.3
with 4.10.5.
Valuable for 32 bit and 64 bit Italian packages and German packages. 
Forgetting people's birthday or anniversaries is a risky business (think about
flying cups and plates if you are married).  So I will vote for this one, to
save money on traumatic cranial evens.
