I am Gustavo Boiko, a former KDE contributor trying to come back to this
awesome community. :)
As kdenlive is the application I have been playing around and having fun
the most lately, I am trying to start contributing to the nice work you
guys have been doing.

I talked to Farid, who pointed me to the list of blockers of the timeline
refactor so I tried to build/use it to see what it looks like.
While trying to use it, I found a crash that I reported here:

I have some spare time next week to dedicate to kdenlive, so if there is
something I can help with, please let me know.

Hello,

I've just uploaded latest updates to launchpad, currently building the 
binaries.
=> will shortly have stable=17.08.3, testing=17.11.80, master=18.03.70
note that latest MLT causes a build error on Artful/Bionic (wrong 
include of xlocale.h),
so these binaries will be a bit delayed until I fix this.
timeline-rewrite should be 18.11.71, but also fails to build...

In any case, I think that AppImage flexibility to have several releases 
on the same system justifies the pick for ubuntu users as well.

Deepto TV journalists in Bangladesh use KDEnlive 17.04.3 to cut news videos. We are facing difficulties in exporting high resolution videos using kdenlive as audio goes out of sync with video. Please check https://youtu.be/Hx9CysxKqSo for an example of audio/video going out of sync at around 30 seconds. The issue occurs when journalists add voice over the video, without voice over there's no sync issue.
If we "Render Using Proxy Mode" then only the video and audio are syncing. We've tried several other codecs like mpeg2,mpeg4, lossless codec and mxf but are facing the same issues like audio video sync loss.  The workaround is to render everything using proxy mode, but sometimes there is not enough time to create and use a proxy.
Any help would be appreciated.

resolution. Can this be changed? I tried but without success, but I'm unsure 
if it's because of a config error on my side.

Reason: I'm trying to create a 4K video, but since the project monitor is much 
smaller, something like 720p would be sufficient and much faster to render.

Why don't you use proxies do edit your fottage and then render it in 4K (I
assume your footage is in 4K).

I already do that (of course, otherwise I couldn't do anything). But as soon 
as effects and transitions come into play, preview rendering comes in handy - 
but to wait > 1min. for a zone of maybe 10 seconds is not so much fun.

There are two mentoring proposals by Vincent here:

Note that the students must be proactive and communicative. We are having a
bug squashing day on December 1st and a Kdenlive café on the 15th. Those
are good moments for them to test the waters.

Hi everyone,

Is there a way to edit in the way Camtasia works? I find it highly
efficient.

Basically, the timeline selector has two drag-able handles on either side,
allowing you to select a piece of track. Hitting the spacebar plays that
selection to verify you have the correct stuff you want to remove. Then
CTRL+X to cut it out. The timeline then snaps flush together to make it
seamless.

It really limits the amount of clicking involved and I find I can edit lots
of mistakes out of a screencast very quickly.

If anyone knows how to do this in kdenlive, I would appreciate it.

1. set in and out points in timeline using the I and O shortcuts; the so-called region.2. Ctrl+space plays only the region.3. Shift+X removes the region, moving trailing stuff to fill the gap.

What do you mean you don't know how to test ? You don't know how to compile 
Kdenlive ? You can find some guidelines here: 

https://community.kde.org/Kdenlive/Development/KF5

(you can use MLT from your distro and skip directly to 
"Get the Qt5/KF5 branch of Kdenlive" if you just want to compile Kdenlive.

Let us know if your problem is different.
