Not working with the speed effect but instead recoding the frame timing, as I had enough trouble with the speed effect in the past, but mainly due to the bad seeking behavior in H.264.

Just thought everyone should know that the Kubuntu 16.10 beta 2 release 
is showing the old Kdenlive program icon. There are also dark-themed 
icons that are missing from the interface when in Breeze Dark theme mode.

ARGH, it was a corrupted file. A "sudo aptitude reinstall swh-plugins" 
cured this. Don't want to know why this file was corrupted... :(

A user at the forum has brought up the issue about a fundraiser, afaik
bounties are more interesting since they are not as time consuming as a
fund raising campaign. Also someone has suggested a donation button which
to me sounds good and we can try to implement it.

Subject: Feature request regarding tabs separated from the main interface

Hi, not sure if I should send feature requests this way, but here goes.

When I drag a tab - like the "Project monitor" tab - away from the main 
interface, it becomes a "separate" "window" - which is great!
Except said "window" doesn't have proper window controls, like any other 
application's windows - and even Kdenlive's main window.

There's only a button to close window in the application bar (title bar I 
think), and one to put it back as a tab in the main window. As there's no 
button to resize or even minimize said window, working such windows is a bit 
of a pain - I cannot move it around or resize it with my DE's global window 
management shortcuts.

Would it be possible to make it a proper window?

I just made my Kdenlive snap package available. I am interested in feedback 
so for those who want to give it a try, you will find the install 
instructions below.

The snap package contains the latest development versions (git master) of 
MLT, Frei0r, vid.stab, OpenCV and Kdenlive.

Since some issues remain to be fixed in the snap packaging format, the 
package is in "development mode" which means it is not listed on the Ubuntu 
Store and you need to pass a special flag to install it.

"Development mode" means that the package has full access to your system 
like any normal application and does not run in the contained environment 
provided by the snap format.

You can install the package on supported distributions using the following 
command:

sudo snap install --edge --force-dangerous --devmode kdenlive-devel

The "force-dangerous" flag is required because the package is in devmode. 
The snap application can be started from the terminal with 
"kdenlive-devel". You can remove it with:

sudo snap remove kdenlive-devel

This installation does not touch your system's libraries or installed 
versions of Kdenlive, MLT or Frei0r so it nice to test the latest git.

This is currently in test, so I don't want to spread it too much until we 
have more feedback.

So trying to install in archlinux and success:

No LADSPA plugins were found!

Check your LADSPA_PATH environment variable.


Some issues so far:

* So far it failed to create the ffmpegthumbnails using MLT.
* The breeze theme is missing and only a white mode is available.

I tried to test it further but i'm away from my workstation using an old
laptop. Hopefully next week i can give it a go again.

It installed OK on ElementaryOS (Ubuntu 16.04), but like Farid, I had no Breeze icons, and only the ugly white theme.  Audio & video thumbnails were created successfully.

When opening a project,  I see the following warning:

    The document was created in "de_DE.UTF-8" locale, which is not installed in your system. Please install that language pack. Until then, Kdenlive might not be able to correctly open the document.

after clicking OK, I get another dialog:

    There is a locale conflict on your system. The document uses locale de_DE.UTF-8 which uses a "." as numeric separator (in system libraries) but Qt expects ",". You might not be able to correctly open the project.

I just pushed an updated version of the kdenlive-devel snap that contains 
fixes for locales issue, Ladspa path and breeze + dark theme availability.

You should be able to update using

sudo snap refresh kdenlive-devel

or install using

sudo snap install --edge --force-dangerous --devmode kdenlive-devel

Jesse: no idea what is this signature error.
Which snap version do you have ?
snap --version

If things go well I will create a snap package for the 16.08 branch so 
people can do some more testing.

I tested the latest one snap on Ubuntu 16.04 with Nvidia drivers and I found no issues during the install but when I launched the proram Kdenlive didn't start and the terminal  stay stuck on the latest line of this sequence

The breeze theme is available fine and it doesn't complain about missing
ladspa.

I noticed a glitch happening in the lower toolbar when you zoom in the
timeline though...

Massimo I will test the package with an nvidia card soon.

some symlinks to work correctly.
Can you paste here the output of these 2 commands:

This simply exposes access to the LUT effect of libavfilter. This is for initial review only and probably shouldn't be merged right away for several reasons:
 * There is a bug in melt regarding this effect that needs to be fixed first (affects users with european locale). See https://github.com/mltframework/mlt/issues/130
 * The UI is not optimally pretty because I cannot get the URL Picker to behave nicely (it takes all space possible instead of justifying to the left as a text field for example)
 * It is proably time to define a standard way to standardize the extension filters of the urlpicker. Currently the xml object corresponding to an url has no way to define this (and I had to temporarily disable filtering altogether in the code)
 * I've set a "full" description of the filter but I don't see where it is showing up in the current UI.

Thanks for that feedback. After doing some search it appears to be a snap 
bug with NVidia. Fix is in progress and a workaround is available here if 
you want to test:

  I am an old Cinelerra and Open Shot user at age 82 I don't think I can 
relearn Cinelerra and believe that Open shot has so improved that it no 
longer works. I had tried Kdenlive in it's early years but found it

I just successfully installed the kdenlive-devel snap on Kubuntu 16.10 so

Next year Brazil will host the 2017 Libre Graphics Meeting in Rio de
Janeiro. Although the date hasn't yet been set it will probably be around
the 20th April. What do you say we have a community meeting to get to know
each other, have a BoF post the 16.12 cycle, get to know other LGM people,
etc? I am going to propose to the organization to have a Libre Video
Meeting to discuss workflows/integration among projects (Natron, Blender,
Shotcut, Kdenlive, MLT, Gstreamer, etc...)

There will also be Lakademy (Latin Akademy) held around the same time and
it could be a good place to meet as well, expand the latin community and
get more devs/contributors among other things. Here is some more info:

I've been testing the latest kdenlive-devel snaps package (not sure if 
that's even the appropriate way to describe it, but there you go). Seems 
to install fine, but crashes after install every time, it won't run.

Command used in terminal to install kdenlive-devel package:
sudo snap install --edge --force-dangerous --devmode kdenlive-devel

Tested on:
Ubuntu 16.10 x64, Unity 7.5.0 desktop environment.

something else I can do to troubleshoot, thanks!

JB, per our discussion in Cafe #10, I tried using the following 
work-around to the snaps package not working (possibly) with proprietary 
Nvidia drivers as provided in your link. The work-around, however, was 
unsuccessful: Kdenlive still crashed witih "Aborted (core dumped)" in 
Terminal. Here were the work-around steps that I did (as it was written 
by the original author):

Here's a workaround.

I have two nvidia directories under /usr/lib:

$ ls /usr/lib -l | grep " nvidia-"
drwxr-xr-x 6 root root 4096 Apr 25 12:19 nvidia-304
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Apr 25 10:32 nvidia-352

Removing the unused one fixes the bug. First, figure out which one 
you're using:

$ dpkg -l |grep ^ii| grep nvidia-[0-9]
ii nvidia-304 304.131-0ubuntu3 amd64 NVIDIA legacy binary driver - 
version 304.131

Now, delete or rename any other nvidia-* directories (any that aren't 
the one in use):

$ sudo mv /usr/lib/nvidia-352 /usr/lib/old-nvidia-352

Thanks to JB for offering to let testers download his AppImage version 
of Kdenlive for testing. Unfortunately, however, this crashed after I 
tried to open it from the Terminal. Steps to repeat the crash:

(1) Download the Kdenlive AppImage file from the link JB provided (file 
name Kdenlive-git-x86_64.AppImage).
(2) Open Terminal.
(3) cd Downloads/ && sudo chmod +x ./Kdenlive-git-x86_64.AppImage
(4) ./Kdenlive-git-x86_64.AppImage

Program briefly opens, then crashes. Terminal produces this output:

I also did the same test for feedback :
First run:

I have the same crash on startup on Arch and compiling from git.

There are at least three open bugs on this, so a couple of users are
affected.

I agree with Farid. I don't think it's a bad thing if we mark "wontfix", 
"invalid", etc. on wishlist requests -- even with a brief explanation if 
you feel led (e.g. "We're not deciding to take this route right now, but 
thanks for your feedback.", something like that). For someone like me, 
if an idea is "up in the air", and I believe in it, I'll continue to 
encourage it; but if there's an answer letting me know this will be 
accepted/committed or rejected/wontfix, then at least I know where you 
direct my energies, you know? Just an encouragement.

I have just pushed an update that should fix the nvidia startup crash. To 
update, you need to run a command in terminal:

sudo snap refresh kdenlive-devel --devmode

Integration with package managers is pending if I remember correctly.

Hi all,

Some great news since last café:

* The Kdenlive AppImage will be hosted on download.kde.org, it should be up 
in the next days.

* I have updated the kdenlive-devel snap package

* I have optimized the qtblend transition (in MLT git master) that is used 
in timeline track compositing which now gives a much smoother timeline 
playback, both snap and AppImage packages contain this change.

* I think the Nvidia startup crash should be fixed (when using normal 
playback, Movit/GPU probably still unstable) - AppImage should allow 
testing it.

* My talk at Toulouse's Capitole du Libre ( 
https://2016.capitoledulibre.org/ ) has been confirmed, so I will make a 
presentation on MLT and Kdenlive there on saturday's 19th of november.

I will publish something on the website as soon as the AppImage is online.

Just spoke with the KDE_VDG team and there is no HIG guideline about using
the dark theme as default. (One will be written soon.)

Basically as long as the user can set the white theme back to default (or
whatever one chooses), it is alright to set the dark theme to be default.

The team asked if there are any icons that we'd like them to help us
with... let me know.

Description
-------

This is a first step towards a refactoring of the effects stack. Currently the different widgets do not share a base class and their creation based on the xml is a bit cluttered, with a lot of redundancies. The plan is to unify this by creating a proper factory method.

I'll split the work into small and hopefully easy to review bits so that we make sure that no feature is lost on the way.

Thanks, had a quick look and seems ok, definitely a step in the right direction. 
Just to make sure you are aware of it, Kdenlive 16.12 feature freeze is on the 17th of november, after that only bug fixes should get in (A 16.12 branch will be created and master will be open for new developments).
I can merge your changes now if they are safe, but if you plan more imnportant changes that could introduce regressions, might be better to wait until the 17th when we can commit to master without consequences for the 16.12 release.
Also I think I will ask the sysadmins to give you commit access if you want, it will make it easier for you to work.
