I did get KDE 3.5 installed. It took 4 hours (I'm 2.3 GHz)! I liked it for the brief time it ran. After shutting down, actual off, for the night the monitor would not come on the next day! I read about the reason and deleted many of the suspect "tmp" files after I did an reinstall of my SUSE Linux 10.1. Now I'm setting up to run KDE 3.5.1 as another user logged in.

Thanks very much. Though a "newbie" at this bit I'm not a stranger to computers having had many involvements as an engineer since my degree in '54. Having enjoyed coding, it initially replaced my slide rule!, rather than watch TV which I don't do anyway the idea of trying to do some coding for open source seems a nice idea being retired and uninvolved, at least not overwhelmingly engaged.

Besides, I often get that "itch" I've heard you refer to as a motivator for code! For example on my SUSE Linux computer I like to use the pages and, besides having them shown at the bottom I'd like the "Desk Number" to stay on the screen longer then 200 milliseconds when changing "screens". And I'd like to get the video, sound, et al working better on my Linux setup than it does on my Windows XP which I very rarely use.

Thanks again.
