just to make sure i got this right :
every monitor displays an "independent" desktop ?
i.e - you actualy see to "copies" of you desktop, is this correct ?

Sort of. With Xinerama, you have 2 monitors, but one large desktop.
You can drag windows from one monitor to the other. As far as X is
concerned, the resolution of your desktop is something like 2048 x 768
(instead of 1024 x 768). Without Xinerama, you have 2 independant
desktops. The mouse travels between the screens, but that is all. Each
desktop has it's own settings for background, it's own panel with it's
own Desktop directory in $HOME(desktop and desktop1).

did you make sure that syslogd is installed and running ?
run /sbin/syslogd and see if you get an "already running" message.
optionaly : ps aux |grep syslogd.

syslogd is running.

you are probebly missing QT's development liberies
install libqt-mt-dev.

Where would I get that. I downloaded a pre-compiled version, that I
think was built by someone who happened to like Tru64 and KDE, not
necessarily by the KDE group themselves.

Tom

hope this helps,
tal.
