<p class="MsoNormal">I would like to use KDE programs on my work-PC on Windows, but the KDE Windows Installer is so seriously broken that it does not work for me.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">But before I address the issue with the Windows Installer, let me ask the question: Why are there no instructions on the KDE website on how to install KDE applications *<b>without</b>* using the broken installer? I would actually assume
that with such an easy straight forward procedure - Select directory - Download mirrors list - Select and download packages – it should be easy to provide such a procedure. Did I not search deep enough? Can you point me to that page if it exists? In the installer
I see the option “Install from local directory”. I assume that this is the way I have to proceed, but from where can I download the files? Which files?</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">The issue with the Installer is the way it addresses proxy servers. It fails after selecting the proxy method with a timeout and message like this:</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">None of the four provided proxy options did work. I have both Internet Explorer and Firefox installed and both browsers are able to download the mirrors list from all of the provided servers. Setting the proxy manually did not work either.
However, setting the proxy manually did work for TortoiseSVN. Additional information: our company uses Astaro as firewall solution.</p>
