<p class=MsoNormal><font size=2 face=Arial><span style='font-size:10.0pt;
font-family:Arial'>I have a problem with the K-menus not being configured
properly on a workstation in a diskless environment. When I log into the
workstation, all the familiar K-menu items are missing, including the normal
icons on the task bar. When I run ‘kbuildsycoca
–menutest’ on the diskless workstation, I don’t get the
normally listed menus and their file paths. When I run the same command
on the server, I get all the menus and their file paths and when I log into the
server the menus look normal. Obviously there is something happening with
the diskless environment that is not allowing access or missing file paths to
the menus. The only thing that is different, (that I can think of),
between the diskless workstation file systems and the server file systems is
that the root and /usr file systems are read-only on the diskless
workstation. All the file systems are memory mounted and populated from
NFS resources except for the root and /usr file systems which are mounted
read-only over NFS from the server. The /var, /tmp, /etc file systems and
the user home directories are all write accessible. Therefore, I must
conclude that it is the read-only aspect of the /usr or root file systems that
is causing the problem. Is there anything on the /usr or root file
systems that KDE needs write access to? I’m running FreeBSD 5.3
stable, KDE 3.3.1. I never had this problem on a FreeBSD 4.9 stable, KDE
3.1.4 diskless system, and it’s /usr and root file systems were read-only
as well. Another thing I noticed was that the following environment
variables were set on the server when logged in with KDM….<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
