Sorry - should have been clearer in my request. What is the widget
called that one gets when one first launches KDE4 so that I know what to
drag to the panel. It isn't the "K-menu", but the one that, from
memory, allows one to access different tasks, recent files, etc., in a
series of slides (a bit like the default WindowsXP menu).

It's called kickoff - but in the widget list it is, as James said, called
Application Launcher (Launcher to start applications). In fact there are two,
the other being Application Launcher (Traditional....)
I also recommend that you take a look at Lancelot - similar to kickoff, but
IMO superior. Again, it's an Add Widgets task.

That's very useful Anne (& James) - thank you. I'm not currently
in KDE, but next time I log in I'll fix my panel. Is Lancelot an
option or something in addition to download and install?
