Hi<br>
I have compiled kde 4.2.2 from source and it works, but only , when I<br>
run  the  startx as root<br>
<br>
 > cat ~/.xinitrc<br>
exec startkde<br>
<br>
As non-root , I get a lot of splash screens "Run as root - KDE su <8>"<br>
asking me for the root password:<br>
/usr/bin/emacs-snapshot-gtk --<br>
smid="106....................................' --no-splash<br>
<br>
and :<br>
<br>
nepomukservicestub -session 106.............................<br>
<br>
I click "ignore" many times and then I get a black screen with only the<br>
mouse pointer.<br>
<br>
Any ideas ?<br>

Pete</blockquote><div><br>set kdm ad default login manager and use /etc/init.d/xdm start<br>or similar service. if you use startx you'll just start an xserver for the current user, while when starting the service you'll get a login windows (kdm/gdm/xdm) manager in which you can logon as user.<br clear="all">
