D'oh! I feel like an idiot.... 'course I know this stuff. Perhaps I was
blinded by the unspoken conviction that chat history is such a *basic*
feature that it wouldn't be something enabled at compile-time :-/  A
preference setting, sure, but... a plugin? a compile-time feature?
It seems kinda dumb.  Anyway....

I am now history-enabled :-)  Thanks for your help, Dale (again).
