To stop the pop-up thing, you can stop the mediamanager.  I had mine to
not start because of another package conflicting with it and the pop-up
does not pop up.  You should have something like a wrench somewhere.  It
varies from distro to distro, you can tell it not to start it from there
in KDE Service Manager.  It should be called the same but it does move
around from distro to distro.
