Title :- Go Green - Save Power Abstract :- PowerTop is a software which measures power consumption by different components of a intel/amd processor based machine. On profiling power usage deatils suggestions are made to minimize power usage.Especially it is used to identify unnecessary wakeups preventing CPU to be in idle state which causes more power consumption.Tips are generated based on this to optimize power in a better way .This is very much helpful for laptops to run on battery for more time. Also it plays major role in green computing as more the power consumes, more the global warming. The original powertop tool from lesswatts.org comes with ncurses interface which is less user friendly. So the main focus of this session is to explain the efforts of bringing a better UI for this using qt libs which is under development by the project qpowertop. Also the scope(with current status) of developing this as kde application and/or as a plasmoid will be discussed. The issues traced out and enhancements planned for this project will be listed out, so that interested people can start contributing to this. Prerequisites:- C++, Qt Programming, KDE Desktop Links:- 1. code.google.com/p/qpowertop 2. lesswatts.org/projects/powertop Thanks& Regards, Rajesh Sola. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... KDE will see a good attendance, as I see it. We seem to have a lot of KDE stuff happening as well, going by the speaker list. KStars, the application I maintain, requires a lot of love in this aspect. Although it has a lot of features, it lacks eye-candy - mostly because we don't use OpenGL. If someone is interested in learning these by way of contributing to KStars, please send me mail, and I should be able to help during December. This is (hopefully) a win-win situation. KDE benefits by getting a nice new GUI and you benefit by learning OpenGL/Qt and real world coding. Pre-requisites: 1. C++ 2. An open mind 3. A steep learning curve Regards Akarsh From pradeeptob at gmail.com Fri Nov 20 04:00:03 2009 From: pradeeptob at gmail.com (Pradeepto Bhattacharya) Date: Fri, 20 Nov 2009 08:30:03 +0530 Subject: [KDE-India] KDE Booth @ FOSS.IN Message-ID: <4f9d244d0911191900h6fe6bf56mafc1049173a52b5e@mail.gmail.com> Hi, Please note : http://foss.in/register/expo/foss-project-registration Cheers!
