There is a third possibility, afaics:

3) Delete Exif.OlympusIp.BlackLevel before writing the metadata to the DNG
image

(Or set the value to 0, if that makes more sense. And apply the same treatment
to other tags as needed). These values are apparently related to the raw image
data and since that has been processed, they are no longer valid. The Exif data
which makes sense for the converted image remains intact.

Conceptually it is similar to what we do when we read metadata from a TIFF file
and write it to a JPEG - some tags are filtered.

Out of curiosity, what's the rationale for processing the image data only to
some extent, as it is apparently done now, if it still requires specialized RAW
converters (dcraw) to display the image later? The resulting DNG seems to still
contain very much proprietary image data in this case. Why not convert the
image data to an open format? Or am I missing something?
