It crashes because it's trying to print a qFatal -- a fatal error, in other 

words. It would be useful to actually have that error message (e.g. by running 

the application from an xterm).

    Thanks, Adriaan, this reply would've been helpful a month ago, when

    I asked the question. Since then I replaced the video card (from

    NVidia to Radeon), got the KDE5 to come up, realized, I don't like

    it and switched to Xfce...<br>
