KDM by default runs "shutdown now", not "shutdown -p now" - This is why FreeBSD shuts down but does not power down the machine. You can change the command in your kdmrc (or presumably somehow using the GUI if you prefer). I guess this should be fixed with a patch in the port and/or upstream. - Bartosz
