Heya folks :)

with the planning for the sprint being on its way we should probably
have a meeting to discuss agenda and stuff. Steph was so kind to sort
the survey results. I'll look into that next and distribute them.
(Thanks a bunch, Steph!). That could also be a topic for meeting. Part
of the survey answers need to be turned into junior jobs in bugzilla.
Justin made a Marble video and we should come up with ideas for
another promo video for him or someone else.

http://www.doodle.com/4qkyqihyy6h6icph has the poll. It will be open
until Sunday. Please pay attention to time zone.
Heya :)

finally got around to checking the results after Steph was so kind to
sort them by program.
http://lydiapintscher.de/tmp/KDE-EduSurvey.ods is the resulting
spreadsheet. There is something for everyone ;-)

Let me know which of those could potentially be turned into junior
jobs. (If you don't want to file them yourself I'll try to find
someone but let me know either way.)

If you want access to the raw results with answers to all questions
ping me as well. I can give you access but for obvious reasons I can't
share them with everyone and/or unknown people.

Cheers and I hope those are useful for you
I'm planning to move rocs to gitorious when 4.4 is out, this will
simplify a few things for me. I wonder if the whole kde-edu can be
moved there without much hassle, we already have some big apps on
gitorious like amarok, gluon and of course, qt itself.

I didn't see much talk about gitting kde on the -devel list, so I
think it's a module decision at this time.
There is a mailinglist dedicated to git:

http://lists.kde.org/?l=kde-scm-interest

(Almost) all discussion happens there.

About your question: I would be in favour of it.
There is much discussion of this going on at kde-scm-interest@kde.org
and #kde-git at the moment. There are still some problems to resolve
before any applications move to Gitorious. Amarok and Konversation are
simply there as test subjects. The biggest issue for us is whether all
the applications in kde-edu reside in one Git repository or whether
they are each in their own and are aggregated somewhere externally.

I'd suggest you join the discussions and meetings and offer your help
wherever you can.

I had a look at the survey. One thing I would really like to see happen (and
I hope we can get these contacts on the way) is that people start to work on
the long lists we have in a particular way:

There are many language courses around. Each course could benefit from the
lists that are there instead of starting "from scratch". The easiest way
would be to add a column for a specific "group of lessons" where we then
have a person who says "dog = lesson 1, cat = lesson 1, building = lesson 2,
skyescraper = lesson 2, tomato = lesson 3, to cook = lesson 3" etc. -
missing terms get added. By doing things this way the data gets better and
better and it becomes ever less work to create lessons.

Of course we can create all sorts of different lessons, but none of them
will 100% reflect the users needs. What is planned nevertheless is the
translation of a basic set of sentences and the words used for these
sentences can become of course "one set of data".

Files should become much smaller in future. Right how what we have is to let
people know: much is already there and one can save a lot of time by taking
what is there and working on it. There's also another reason: I have to make
data quantity to work on for volunteers in "digestible bits and pieces" and
there I still have one of those question marks to solve.
Are you sure this is a good idea?
This would be the first app inside KDE (not in extragear) to be in
gitorious. That would mean it wouldn't be together with the rest of the
module... :/

Note that i'm not talking about technical advantages of git over svn, but I
think kdeedu should move all at once.
Nope it's not really a good idea. You'll get a lot of fire for wanting
to do it before all of KDE SC and there will be people blocking this
if necessary.
However the remaining tasks need people to do them. So the more of you
help with writing rulesets for the conversion for example the faster
this will get finished. If you want to help join the mailinglist or
#kde-git. There is a meeting in #kde-git in about 1 hour and 30 mins
from now. Join it! :)
Hi all,

Since we have a clear preference for the second week in May, we booked
the house from

20. - 25. May 2010

I edited the Doodle accordingly:

You will find more organisational information in this wiki page:

http://amarok.kde.org/wiki/Community/SprintMay2010 [1]

Please all, fill in your details in the Attendees list of the above
wiki page ASAP.

If any of you want to give a helping hand with organising, please get
in touch with me <myriam@kde.org>, Mark <kretschmann@kde.org> or Mario
<fux.mario@unormal.org>.

Looking forward to meet you all in Randa!

Regards, Myriam.

[1] Since there was no clear location on the techbase.kde.org wiki, I
chose to put it in the Amarok wiki. An alternative could be the
/Events section, what do you think? It would be really easy to move
since both use Mediawiki, I just need more input on this.
