TASK DESCRIPTION

KDE Vision states that KDE opposes government control over devices and believes freedom without privacy isn't really freedom.

But here's the thing: KDE isn't addressing bills that propose government spyware on all devices, like the UK Online Safety Bill, EU Chat Control, and US EARN IT Act.

This suggests that KDE developers don't consider surveillance and control by truly benevolent parties as a violation of privacy and loss of agency, and that Western democracies satisfy their criteria for true benevolence.

That's not obvious to everyone. KDE should explicitly state these exceptions to avoid any misunderstandings. Thanks!

TASK DETAIL
https://phabricator.kde.org/T16880

To: canoeingpanorama
Cc: Websites, Documentation, KDE Privacy Goal, canoeingpanorama, jamesth, gennad, fbampaloukas, GB_2, Anachronox, skadinna, jriddell, sheedy, lydia, valorie, ochurlaud, kvermette, maspons
