It can be more generic than just enabling touchpad, there are other keys users want to enable. For example your daemon handles only the XF86XK_TouchpadToggle keysym, I think it should also handle XF86XK_TouchpadOn, XF86XK_TouchpadOff, and the other four keys in the link above.</p>
