i don't think the benefits have really been communicated at all, no.

a big difference between this and the dbus issue is that dbus/dcop *is* the 
protocol while the protocols here are http, ftp, ssh, wedav, etc. and 
KIO/GIO/whatever stuff on top are just accessors to it. the difference is 
fundamental.
