You might want to try a little longer then. OS/X makes the same distinction 
between $HOME and a "Document" folder (and a few others like "Songs", 
"Pictures", etc...), and this has yet to confuse any of the 
computer-illeterate people I've seen being confronted to it.

Equalling "Documents" to $HOME simply doesn't make any sense, on any platform 
(even Windows, although the distinction is less needed since subfolders for 
other types are under 'My Documents'), and most people seem to understand 
that without trouble, as far as I can tell.
