I think it's important to point out that people that use KDE on such legacy 
systems don't take full advantage of what KDE has to offer and that they can 
improve their situation by using a modern X server. Whether they want to do 
so is their choice, the requirements page explains what they will miss if 
their X server lacks certain extensions so that they can make an informed 
decision whether it is worth the hassle to upgrade their server.
