Of course you can, but that's not the case at the moment.
Does that mean you plan to do that in the near future?

But as I wrote, cdrskin doesn't seem to be used at all currently here.
So currently the message seems bogus anyway to me.

Or am I misunderstanding something? (e.g. is it only used for DVDs/BDs? I only
tested CDs)

And why?
It works (since years), it is maintained upstream. And actually it seems to be
used by k3b here even with cdrskin installed.
