I just tried re-configuring the NoMachine General->Desktop settings to use 'Unix' + 'Custom' + Settings->Run the console<BR>
instead of 'Unix' + 'KDE'.<BR>
This succeeds and gives me a terminal window.<BR><BR>
This suggests that the problem might be connected with KDE rather than FreeNX.<BR>
However I also tried 'Unix' + 'GNOME' (GNOME is also available on the remote machine). This also gives me a black screen.<BR>
