OK. Do you also always have:-

"Error: Aborting session with 'Could not open default font 'fixed''."

when its working over ASL or is that where it is stopping ??

Someone else reported 10.04 exiting with this on 30/09/2010
and the ubuntu forums have various solutions to that
as an issue.

Well there shouldn't be any differences whatever the link is running
over, so there may be any number of questions . . . .

Some ISPs filter out certain traffic, but that should stop the ssh
connection being established in the first place.

You seem to have done a few re-installs, so if you can get it all
back to connecting via ADSL and then see if it still won't connect
from the same client to the same server via 3G we may be able
to pin it down.

eg.

Try connecting manually over the 3G and see what it says then
i.e ( depending on where nxnode is installed, I don't ubuntu)
ssh -X user at server -P port "/usr/bin/nxnode --agent :2000"

You should get a blank nx screen with no crashes.

You can also run nxagent yourself

ssh -X user at server -P port

/usr/bin/nxagent :2000

and see if you get any error messages.

If you get the agent running, ssh again and in another session run

export DISPLAY=:2000
startkde or gnome or whatever
