However Gnome, for example, can save a session and the session aware applications that were running in it, and resume them after a crush.? Note however that this is not perfect, there is some data loss, and some apps are not resumed, at least in my Gnome version.

Does FreeNX have a way to auto-launch the applications that were a  part of a Suspended session (whcih remain running while suspended), if  the server crashes and reboots?
