definitions:
nxserver: the host running freenx
server  : host running vncserver
client  : host running nxclient

what's been tested successfully, and where:
nxserver -> freebsd 4.10, 4.11, 5.3, 5.4
            freenx 0.4.4
            nxserver (nxlibs) 1.4.0
server   -> win2kpro, ultravnc
            gentoo linux, tightvnc (vncserver) and realvnc X module
client   -> win2kpro/winxp/gentoo linux
            nomachine nxclient 1.4.0, 1.5.0
            java plugin (ie6 on win32 and firefox on win32/linux)
            moznx plugin (firefox)

freenx is currently running on freebsd 5-stable, but has been tested on all
versions listed above. freenx and nxserver ports are available in the official
freebsd ports tree. i'm the maintainer for both ports. currently freenx-0.4.1 is
in ports; freenx-0.4.4 has not yet been committed, though it has been submitted.
you can find freenx-0.4.4 at the following location while waiting for it to show
up in freebsd ports ...

http://www.deweyonline.com/nx/freebsd.html

i have not yet tried the 1.5.0 backend on freebsd, because i have not yet been
able to finish porting it to freebsd.
