For your not very scientific "seems", there can't be any other 
substantial reason than the difference between "!M NX GPL Core" 
libs in version 1.4.0 and version 1.5.0.

FreeNX uses the very same NX core components -- and these do 
*all* the real work for your NX connection.

FreeNX is just a wrapper around this core, to make more...

a) ... more convenient the setup of the NX Core libs and utilities 
   on the NX server side
b) ... more convenient the connection to the NX Core libs and 
   utilities from a client
c) ... more convenient the changing of NX user passwords, etc.

You should be knowing that much by now. No need to try constructing
a "FreeNX is better than !M NX" strawman.
