I am near Hamburg and interested in travelling, but have something more 
important at home right before that.
I would be able to join via video conference.

I also don’t know what my role would be there.
Just being there as one (1) member of mankind/community, like on a 
demonstration?

You mean *at Akademy*, which is *after* the above event, I guess.
