<p>I'm not sure, but here is a thought. Consider this hierarchy:</p>

<p>In settings, make DK write to sidecar files in all cases. If you
select an image and click a tags check mark at level "B", and then
synchronize, inspection of the sidecar shows DK created tag "A" <b>and
tag "</b>A/B". If you remove the check mark from "A", the tag
"A" is removed, but tag "A/B" is not. To DK, the <b><i>entire
path</i></b> is the tag. If, in the 11 files that did not
work, there is not a tag for each level of the path from root to
leaf, you would get the behavior you observe. </p>

very strange situation. As part of my Digikam 8.6.0
organization structure, I have a hierarchical tag structure
that is Tags > Events > Year > Event Name. An
example is Tag > Events > 1984 > 1984-05-14 - Cape
Hatteras Surfing.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">The idea is
that I can take all photos from a year and assign them under
Events, like "1984" in the example Then I can take certain
photos and assign them to a specific event, liked
"1984-05-14 - Cape Hatteras Surfing" in the example.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">I have 42
years (1984 through 2025) structured like this.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">After
assigning all photos to specific events, I always have
photos left over in that year that aren't tagged with any
event. I am trying to identify these non-event random photo
so I can tag them with a tag named "Not Currently in Event".<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">I've
successfully done this for 31 of 42 by using the following
method.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

which is found under Tag > Year, a higher level and
different part of my tag structure than the Events subtag
section.

style="font-size:11.0pt">I then select all Event check
boxes for that year using the Filter tab at right.

style="font-size:11.0pt">I select all these with Cntl-A.

top of the Events folder so the non-event photos show as
well. Now all photos for that year appear with only the
photos which are assigned to an Event highlighted. <o:p></o:p></span></li>

style="font-size:11.0pt">I then click Invert Selection,
and the non-Event photos will be highlighted instead.

style="font-size:11.0pt">I add the now-highlighted photos
to the "Not Currently in Event" tag.<o:p></o:p></span></li>

style="font-size:11.0pt">Now all photos in a year are
assigned either to an Event or the tag "Not Currently in
Event", so all photos of the year are categorized.<o:p></o:p></span></li>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">For 31 of
the Years this worked. But for 11 of these Years, when I
clicked the Year box, and all the photos appears, ALL the
photos are now highlighted rather than just the Event
categorized photos. So I can't tell what I should add to
the "Not Currently in Event" tag category.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">There must
be some structural difference to how I tagged photos in
these 11 galleries. Or perhaps there is a Digikam glitch?<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">I've gone
round and round with ChatGPT to try and solve this behavior
but to no avail. ChatGPT keeps giving me things to try, but

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">Does anyone
know what might be happening? I can gladly supply screen
