<div dir="ltr">Hi again, I have just emerged from a succession of trials which have finally resulted in me having a properly working version of digikam 7.9.0 using the appimage file I was pointed at.<div>The way I got here was somewhat convoluted and time consuming but I will explain in case it helps/guide anyone else.</div><div>1. After the previous exchange, I uninstalled my working - but none thumbnail scanning - snap version of 7.8.0. I replaced it with the flatpak version. This changed nothing.</div><div>2. So, I removed it again and also did a whole series of file deletions and so on variously using synaptic package manager and my file manager. </div><div>3. I reinstalled the flatpack version (multiple times!) but always got the same result - digikam could now *only* see my username folder containing the Pictures folder. - ooh and the waste bin - nothing else. No other folders at all could be found or made visible. This was obviously a considerably worse situation than I started with where I could see all the folders up to where I believe the 7.7.0 to 7.8.0 update occurred.</div><div>4. I attempted to purge everything - including using command line strings, synaptic and file manager - after removal of all the visible installations.</div><div>5. Reinstalled the flatpack version one last time <G> - still only the <username>/pictures folders visible.</div><div>6. Used appimage 7.9.0 - which ran, found everything missing and produced a complete set of thumbnails - all within two hours.</div><div>7. Removed the flatpack version 7.8.0 in 5, above</div><div>8. Checked appimage 7.9.0 still working? - Yes! - and it also seems noticeably quicker.</div><div>9. One final point of note; the appimage 7.9.0 was clever enough to know of one folder which I did not want scanned. This was despite all the deletions and purgings referred to in 4. above! So obviously I had not been as thorough as I had hoped/expected!</div><div><br></div><div>So, my conclusion is that version 7.8.0 was flawed in some way that manifested on my machine.</div><div>When a newer flatpack version arrives for 7.9.0, I'll give that a go...</div><div><br></div><div>Thanks for the help along the way</div><div>Chris</div><div><br></div></div><br><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_attr">On Tue, 11 Oct 2022 at 15:41, Gilles Caulier <<a href="mailto:caulier.gilles@gmail.com">caulier.gilles@gmail.com</a>> wrote:<br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex">AppImage install nothing on your system.
