              been only using digikam for a few days, so maybe there's a

              If you right klick -> open with -> other... on the
              media files, you can choose "remember association" for the
              extension. Afterwards, all, f.e., .mp4's are played with
              vlc when double clicked.<br>
              I searched for an option to set that for multiple
              extensions, or what extensions are already set, but didn't
              find any.<br>

              Also, in settings -> Views -> Icons, you can choose
              what will happen when double clicking a thumbnail, and
              choose "open with default application".<br>
