<p>I have looked in the database and there is no correlation between
codec and thumbnails, so it doesn't look like that is the problem,
but is there any other way to determine the codec? <br>

<p dir="ltr">My guess is that those videos you can't see
thumbnails from are using a codec that you haven't installed
support for. Digikam use gstreamer 1.0 for video so install
packages with plugins for it for more codec support. There are
several packages with extra plugins for gstreamer.</p>
