Replying to myself with the solution.<br>
<br>
Following the remark from Gilles, I checked the libexiv2 version in
ubuntu 15.04. It is version 0.24 (package
libexiv2-13_0.24-ubuntu1_amd64.deb So I downloaded version 0.23
(package libexiv2-12_0.23-ubuntu1_amd64.deb) and installed it.<br>
You can not uninstall 0.24, as there are many dependencies to it. So
I took a shortcut and removed the link from libexiv2.so.13 to
libexiv2.so.13.0.0 and replaced it with a link to
/usr/lib/libexiv2.so.12.0.0<br>
ls -al libexiv2*<br>
libexiv2.so.13 -> /usr/lib/libexiv2.so.12.0.0<br>
libexiv2.so.13.0.0<br>
<br>
I restarted digikam and this time I was able to scan all items. This
clearly proves a bug in libexiv2 0.24. Hopefully 0.25 arrives
quickly and solves this.<br>
<br>
Thanks everyone for your help and especially Gilles!<br>

Hi Gilles,<br>
<br>
<br>
indeed there are videos. Short clips taken with the digital camera
or phone. <br>
But sofar digikam has always been able to scan those.<br>
Come to think of it, I did upgrade from ubuntu 14.10 to 15.04 in
the last couple of weeks. <br>
Could that mean libexiv2 has been upgraded and the new libexiv2
version includes this problem, but not the older one?<br>
Does that in turn mean downgrading to an older version would make
sense?<br>
<br>
A newer version would of course be welcome also. What does near
future mean in this case? Coming days/weeks or maybe months?<br>
I noticed on the exiv2 site that they don't release very often.<br>
<br>

Subject: [Digikam-users] scanning for new entries -
stuck after 89% (Win7 32bit) <br>
<br>
Hi,<br>
I am using Digikam 4.10 on Windows 7 (32bit).<br>
<br>
If I start digikam with my picture-HD attached, it
will start the<br>
scanning of new entries. But it always stops at 89%.<br>
Digikam is still functioning, but it is using about
50% of the processor<br>
power - so the whole system gets sluggish.<br>
<br>
If I start Digikam without the HD and plug it in
later, all is fine.<br>
<br>
I use another program to copy my pictures on the HD
(because of the<br>
importbug which is still there...).<br>
So this thing is really annoying for me. I have to
refresh (F5) every<br>
folder manually :-(<br>
<br>
Any help.<br>
<br>
Thanks.<br>
<br>
Best, Fabian<br>
