You should add my "extra" PPA too as source if you want to be
able to use my packages in the future, even though it might
happen to work for you now. My kubuntu-backports PPA only have
packages that need to be rebuilt against an updated version of
KDE than found in standard Ubuntu of that release version (i.e
trusty, utopic, etc). The "extra" PPA will always be my main
PPA that might have updated packages not found in my
kubuntu-backports PPA but that it will depend up on.
Thanks: it is helpful to know you're running
DK 4.5 on a similar system. In fact, my laptop
is running Mint 17.1 and Digikam 4.0.0 without
complaining - but it only has a dozen photos
to handle, and there isn't room to install my
photo collection on the laptop, even if I
wanted to.
However, now I've had time to look at it
carefully, it hasn't got me much further.

Anyway, using the PPAs suggested by Philip
(ppa:philip5/extra
and ppa:philip5/kubuntu-backports), I've again
reinstalled Digikam - but still only get 4.0.0
(with KDE 4.14.2)- and still it won't open any
image folders, and won't show any images, JPEG
or RAW.
Using right click on a folder (where I know
there are images) or the menu item 'open in
file manager' just crashes the program.
Hi
Thanks again. Linux Mint is

which has the problem that it
won't show my photos. I even tried:
digikam=4.5.0

But it replied:
E: Version ‘4.5.0’ for ‘digikam’
was not found
With other software, I recall
that adding an extra PPA gave me the
newest version when it was not
available in the official
repository.
That doesn’t seem to be
happening here.
Thanks for any help!
Good to know that you are

I don't use Linux Mint so
I'm not sure which versions are
based
on which
Ubuntu versions. You should
use trusty if your Linux Mint is
based on
ubuntu 14.04 and utopic if
it's based on Ubuntu 14.10.

Before you add my
"kubuntu-backports" PPA you should
make
sure what
version of KDE libs your
system is using. If it's using KDE
4.13
then
you shouldn’t use the
"kubuntu-backports" PPA at all.
"kubuntu-backports" PPA is
meant to be used with KDE 4.14 and
then you
use BOTH the "extra" and the
"kubuntu-backports" PPA.
