<br>
Thanks: it is helpful to know you're running DK 4.5 on a
similar system. In fact, my laptop is running Mint 17.1 and
Digikam 4.0.0 without complaining - but it only has a dozen
photos to handle, and there isn't room to install my photo
collection on the laptop, even if I wanted to.<br>

However, now I've had time to look at it carefully, it
hasn't got me much further.<br>

Your list of PPAs includes:<br>

But not this suggested by Philip:<br>
ppa:philip5/extra<br>
<br>
Anyway, using the PPAs suggested by Philip
(ppa:philip5/extra<br>
and ppa:philip5/kubuntu-backports), I've again reinstalled
Digikam - but still only get 4.0.0 (with KDE 4.14.2)- and
still it won't open any image folders, and won't show any
images, JPEG or RAW.<br>
<br>
Using right click on a folder (where I know there are
images) or the menu item 'open in file manager' just crashes
the program.<br>

Here are some reports from the terminal:<br>

It seems I have installed:<br>

If you don't have it available then something is
wrong how you added the<br>
repository. Maybe you don't have included the PPAs
key that makes the<br>
PPA trusted? This can be done automatically if you
use the<br>
add-apt-repository command:<br>
<br>
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:philip5/extra<br>
sudo add-apt-repository
ppa:philip5/kubuntu-backports (only use this<br>
PPA if you are sure that you use KDE 4.14 and not
with KDE 4.13)<br>
sudo apt-get update<br>
<br>
If digikam is installed before then:<br>
<br>
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade<br>
<br>
This will either just update all what's needed
from my PPAs or tell you<br>
if there is some kind of conflict that holds
anything back that needs to<br>
be solved.<br>

Hi<br>
<br>
Thanks again. Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu
14.04, and my version<br>
uses KDE 4.14. I've added the "extra" and the
"kubuntu-backports"<br>
PPAs to my software sources - but it still
loads version 4.0.0,<br>
which has the problem that it won't show my
photos. I even tried:<br>
sudo apt-get install digikam=4.5.0<br>
<br>
But it replied:<br>
E: Version ‘4.5.0’ for ‘digikam’ was not found<br>
<br>
With other software, I recall that adding an
extra PPA gave me the<br>
newest version when it was not available in
the official repository.<br>
That doesn’t seem to be happening here.<br>
<br>
Thanks for any help!<br>

Good to know that you are having progress.<br>
<br>
I don't use Linux Mint so I'm not sure
which versions are based<br>
on which<br>
Ubuntu versions. You should use trusty if
your Linux Mint is<br>
based on<br>
ubuntu 14.04 and utopic if it's based on
Ubuntu 14.10.<br>
<br>
Before you add my "kubuntu-backports" PPA
you should make<br>
sure what<br>
version of KDE libs your system is using.
If it's using KDE 4.13<br>
then<br>
you shouldn’t use the "kubuntu-backports"
PPA at all.<br>
"kubuntu-backports" PPA is meant to be
used with KDE 4.14 and<br>
then you<br>
use BOTH the "extra" and the
"kubuntu-backports" PPA.<br>
