I also noticed and mentioned this problem at some point, but was given the answer that the shortcuts had been hard coded so they would be the same as other programs.<br>Well fine, if you want to take choice away from your users.<br>
It annoyed me at the time, but not enough to delve into the source code.<br><br>I sincerely hope someone does change this - I have got used to using Ctrl + numbers (on the keypad), but it involves some rather uncomfortable hand contortions, and would far prefer to go back to being able to use the numbers on their own.<br>

5. choose a target directory<br>
6. copy the file "digikam<SCHEMANAME>shortcuts.rc"<br>
from folder "<target diretory>/shortcuts/share/apps/digikam/"<br>
to<br>
~/.kde/share/apps/digikam/digikammanewshortcuts.rc<br>
7. stop digikam<br>
8. open the file "~/.kde/share/apps/digikam/digikammanewshortcuts.rc"<br>
in an editor<br>
9. add the following lines near the end of the file in front of the row<br>
"</ActionProperties>":<br>

<Action shortcut="0" name="rateshortcut-0"/><br>
<Action shortcut="1" name="rateshortcut-1"/><br>
<Action shortcut="2" name="rateshortcut-2"/><br>

13 choose the entry "manew" from the first dropdownlist<br>
14. press "OK"<br>

Now the rating should be possible by simply pressing the numbers 0 to 5<br>

Unfortunately the steps 11 to 14 are required after each digikam restart to<br>
enable the customized shortcuts.<br>
Even if the customized entry "manew" is preselected in the dropdownlist,<br>
it has to be selected again to become active!<br>
