State of face recognition in digiKam?

From my experience in using Lightroom, using tags to mark the not-quite visible person seems to be the way to go for me.

I apply a bit of a decision process, and this seems to follow what Lightroom will do:

- If Digikam finds a face region, and suggests a name (or not, sometimes it’s manual) - let it assign a Person tag under the People top-level.

- If Digikam doesn’t see the face correctly, but to me, it’s *obvious* who it is - manually draw a face region, and tag as above.

- If Digikam doesn’t see a face because it is too obscured, or the person is facing away such that the face isn’t visible at all - just assign the Person tag, as drawing a face region might upset the recognition data for this person

- If tagging a video - obviously face regions aren’t supported, so just use the Person tag
