If you want to apply the same tag to a number of images, select them then:-

Ensure that the Captions sidebar is visible (Your screen should look similar to my first attachment);

Click on the ‘Tags already Assigned’ icon, next to the keyword search box. It looks like this:- . You should now see all of the tags currently attached to any of the selected images (see second attachment);

Look carefully at the tags shown and you will see that some of the boxes next to tags are empty, some have a tick and others have a tick with a grey background, which means that tag is only applied to some of the images in your selection.

To remove tags click on the tick; to add tags click on an empty box – use the search box to find and add tags that are not already allocated. N.B. These actions will be applied to all of the images when you click on Apply.

If a tag is ticked and greyed out, clicking on it will apply it to all of the images in your selection. If you leave it alone, it will not be added to additional images!

Hi Gord,

my existing captions are _not_ replaced when I use the method you
describe (if I understand it correctly).
New captions are "appended" on my installation.

Perhaps there is a setting somewhere, to replace rather than append
captions, that you have unknowingly switched on?

I use digiKam 7.6.0 on Arch Linux.

Best regards :o)
